Your Money, Your Future by Frances Cook

If you haven’t heard of Frances Cook, you have been missing out! She’s a financial journalist here in New Zealand, known from a podcast (Cooking the Books), her social media and she also has two books, Tales From a Financial Hot Mess (here’s my little review of it) and this very recently published Your Money, Your Future.

Frances currently writes for BusinessDesk and interviews CEOs in Sharesies’s Shared Lunch.

What can you expect from Your Money, Your Future?

Your Money, Your Future continues the financial journey that Frances started in Tales From a Financial Hot Mess teaching you how to future proof your money and live a life free of financial worries.

She introduces the concept of FIRE, which is short for Financial Independence Retire Early, and how you might reach it in your own life. She covers topics like:

  • How you might increase your income
  • How to invest your income and why
  • How much to invest and how you might live off of investment income

Now finance is my jam and out of my own interest and through university studies I have read quite a bit on the topic.

But let’s face it, the topic can be a bit dry and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve fallen asleep while reading my study texts (no doubt that chronic sleep deprivation caused by motherhood is a factor but still).

Frances however writes about the topic in a very encaging manner and I won’t lie, instead of falling asleep I did let out a chuckle (out loud!) here and there.

My thoughts on the book

Your Money, Your Future is informative and easy to understand and gives you great guidelines and strategies on how to set yourself up towards financial freedom (and what it actually means).

Frances helps you understand that money can be used as a tool to achieve the life you want, and why more isn’t necessarily more.

Just knowing that you’re in control can be enough to make you happier going into work each day.

I enjoyed this book very much!

I like France’s writing style, the humour she brings to the topic and her down to earth attitude. A great thing about this book is that it is written from New Zealand point of view, which isn’t often the case when it comes to finance books.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has their money basics sorted and are wondering what’s next. You can get your copy *here for NZ shoppers and *here for international.

Have you read Your Money, Your Future already? What did you think of it? Or if you haven’t, will you give it a go?
